Abstract

1302471 Medicines with enhanced absorption R P SCHERER CORP 13 Jan 1971 [15 Jan 1970 26 Aug 1970] 1754/71 Heading A5B Pharmaceutical compositions for oral administration having enhanced gastrointestinal adsorption comprise an active ingredient and, as carrier, from 10-95% by weight of a block copolymer of general formula: wherein b is an integer of at least 17 and a and c are non-zero integers, the groups (CH 2 -CH 2 -O) a and (CH 2 -CH 2 -O) c together accounting for from 5 to 80% of the total molecular weight. The active ingredient is preferably an antibiotic, e.g., tetracycline, chloramphenicol or grineofulvin, but may be another medicament which is a steroidal hexane, a corticosteroid synthetic estrogen, thiazide diuretic, carbamate or phenothiazine tranquilizer, antihypertensive, nitrate ester cardiac vasodilator, coumarin-derived anticoagulant, analgesic, barbiturate, sulpha drug, digitalis glycoside, sulphonyl urea hypoglycemic, urinary antiseptic, antitubercular drug or non-steroid anti-inflammatory agent.
