Abstract
Styrene and its derivs (I) are dimerised the trans dimmer (II) (partic. styrene to trans 1,3 diphenyl butene-1) by contacting (I) in liquid form as pure monomer or soln. in inert solvent with 0.01-0.5 of a nickel II allyl trifluoracetate catalyst at >30 degrees C. per litre of reaction mixture.
