Abstract

Water-soluble diaszo dye for paper. The dye is of formula:- It is made by coupling 2 mols. of diazotized 1-amino 2-methyl benzene 4-sulphonic acid with 1 mol. of di-(5-hydroxy naphthalene 7-sulphonic acid) urea. Alternatively 1 mol. of diazotized 1-amino 2-methyl benzene 4-sulphonic acid is coupled with 1 mol of 2-acylamino 5-hydroxy naphthalene 7-sulphonic acid, the acyl group removed by hydrolysis and 2 mols. of the product reacted with at least 1 mol. of phosgene. The dye is suitable for mass colouring and dyeing of paper is brilliant redish-orange shades, and is quantitatively deposited on the paper leaving the water clear.
