Abstract

Modified epoxy resin of increased mol. wt. prodn. Process comprises treating a large amount of non-hardening epoxy resin containing at least one free hydroxyl group with a small amount of isocyanate. The modified epoxy resin consists pref. of 80-95 vol.% of epoxy resin and about 5-20 vol % of isocyanate. Speck resin is a mixture of the reaction products of volatile dicyclopentyl-ether diepoxide and ethylene glycol. Specif organic isocyanate is toluene diisocyanate. An epoxy resin hardening agent such as m-phenylenediamine can be added to the epoxy resin mixture. The modified epoxy resin thus obtained is a stable and viscous liquid when stored under coll conditions, and can be heat hardened.
