Abstract
Reduction of sensitivity of photographic material to green light when exposed by flash of very short duration is avoided by using as optical sensitising dye of formula:- (where Ro is H or alkyl, R1 and R2 are H, alkyl, allyl, aryl or aralkyl, at least one of R1 or R2 being carboxyalkyl or sulphoalkyl, Y1 and Y2 being O, S or N-R7, R7 is alkyl, R3, R4, R5 and R6 are H, halogen, alkyl, cyano group, alkoxy, aryl, R5 and R6 not being aryl when at least one of R3 and R4 is aryl, X is anion, particularly halogen or thiocyanate, m is 1 or 2, being 1 in the case of an intramolecular salt, R8-10 are H, alkyl, allyl or aryl, Y3 is O, S or -N-R11, R11 is H, alkyl or aryl, L1 and L2 are methine chain). Material further contains silverhalide, and Group VIII metal in amount 1 x 10-6 to 1 x 10-3 mol per mol silverhalide.
