Abstract

Coated plastic films of (metallised) plastic (polyethylene terephthalate) film coated with (i) a mixture of melamine formaldehyde (10 to 40 pts), nitrocellulose (30 to 70 pts) and a plasticiser (0.1-25 pts. pref. butyl phthalate), or (ii) melamine formaldehyde (40 to 60, pref. 50 pts) and polyvinylacetal (60 to 40 pref. 50 pts) pref. in solvents volatile at 80 to 150 degrees C. The varnishes do not require a cure stage like conventional melamine lacquers cross-linked with polyurethanes, may be applied with similar equipment and are resistant to degreasing solvents or alkaline laundry solutions.
