Abstract
Refractory comps. esp. for casting channels pipes etc. are prepd. by addition in amt. 0.2-53 wt% of the crude dry product of high purity (>95%) Cr2O3 and 3 wt% Fe2O3 to (I) a refractory clay composition contg. 60-100% calcined clay and 0-4% crude clay (2) a similar material contg. added felspare (=20%) (3) a refractory compsn. of high alumina content (corundum, sillimanite, boehmite etc.) 60-100% and 0-40% crude refractory clay (4) 60-100% zircon (ZrSiO4) and 0-40% crude refractory clay. In each case, the defects of the major and minor constituents and compensated by the Cr2O3 and vice versa.
