Abstract

Moderator block has combined channels to contain several fuel bars in one transverse section of each channel. Preferably, channel has trefoil form and contains three bars, which have ribs so that 3 bars form a central canal for refrigerant circulation. Specifically, block is graphite. Advantage: more fuel can be incorporated, and greater heat exchange surface between fuel and refrigerant can be achieved, without reducing rigidity of the graphite structure.
