Abstract

The metallic particles are prepd. by (1) coating the particles (I) with a soln. of bi- or poly-functional monomers (II), (2) separating the coated particles from the soln. and polymerising the monomer. Pref. proportion of monomer/solvent is 1/15. Specif. (I) is gamma Fe2O3, (II) is tetraethylene glycol dimethacrylate or ethylene glycol diacrylate dispersed in mineral oil, silicone oil or chlorinated hydrocarbon, or divinyl benzene in ethylene glycol. Pref. after polymerisation of the monomer coating the particles are dispersed in a non-magnetic mouldable matrix, pref. a chlorobutadiene or polyetherurethane elastomer. The particles are used for magnetic tape, permanent magnets etc. Oxidation resistance of the particles is sufficient to allow long storage and usage life without deterioration.
