To this dispersed solution, a compound providing radical polymerization or radial copolymerization is added, and a proper catalyst is also added, accelerating polymerization. In this treatment, a radical polymer or copolymer is stuck on the surface of each particle of the nonmagnetic powder and magnetic powder which are both present in a reaction system, thus covering each particles. A nonmagnetic powder-magnetic powder system coated with the polymer, etc., is segmented, dried and dispersed and dissolved in a solvent to adjust a coating body. This is applied over base body surface and dried to obtain a magnetic recording medium which has superior wear resistance and suppresses the abrasion of a magnetic head.
