Abstract
Water cooled lance for the injection of gases into molten metals can be rotated at variable speed and has a melt and slag resisting coating applied by plasma gun or chemical deposition on up to 50% of its length. Suitable coating materials are titanium nitride and carbonitride, cermets, Zr silicate, Al2O3. The treatment results in greatly improved life of the lance and also permits its deeper immersion into the melt.
