Abstract
Decomposition is carried out in two stages. In first, slurry of bauxite containing diaspore and Na aluminate liquor is heated above 220 degrees C until diaspore has decomposed. Slurry then passes to second stage, where it is mixed with pref. preheated slurry stream of bauxite, containing boehmite and opt. hydrargillite, and Na aluminate, using stay time sufficient to decompose boehmite and opt. hydrargillite. Process can be carried out in series of autoclaves, providing higher temp. needed to decompose diaspore in first stage. It is more economical than usual for treatment of bauxite containing diaspore, since steam consumption is lower than for one-stage process and plant capacity somewhat higher.
