Abstract

Compsn. of protective coatings on metals (esp. steel) preventing N, O or C diffusion during high temp. heat treatment is a mixture of Ti, Cr, Si, Al organometallic with a montmorillonite or organobentonite clay, made up in an org. solvent. The coating which is easily applied by immersion pasting or painting to a dry thickness of 0.03-0.3mm, is strongly adherent, does not corrode the metal and remains effective at temps. up to 1250 degrees C.
