Abstract

Catalyst is produced by leaching out with alkali of the Al from a Ni- and/or Co- and/or Fe-Al alloy, the melt of this alloy containing one or more of Ir, Rh, Ru, Pt or Os. Preferred starting alloys contain Ni: Co: Al ratios of 10%:10%:80% or 1%:19%:80% or 20%:20%:60% or 1%:40%:59% or 3%:8%:89%. Preferred noble metal content of alloy on total non-Al content of alloy is 5-40%. Preferred complete alloy compositions are Ir: Co: Ni: Al of 7.9%: 9.21% 9.21%: 73.68%; or 1.04%: 9.9% : 9.9%: 79.16%.
