Abstract

Steroidal esters are prepd. by reaction of sterols of the cholestane, pregnane, androstane and estrane series, containing at least one free OH gp., with an acid chloride R'SO2Cl, where R' = >1C alkyl, aralkyl, O alkyl, O-cycloalkyl, O-aryl, O-aralkyl, O-alkenyl, N(alkyl)2, and N-alkyl-N-cycloalkylamino, N-acyl-N-arylamino, polymethylenimino, or alicyclic residue, in the presence of a sterically hindered amine. The resultant esters are therapeutically active steroid hormone, with prolonged activity.
