Abstract
Recovery of anhydrous hydrochloric acid from dil. aqueous solns. Process comprises distilling the dil. HCl at atmos. pressure to obtain a water-HCl azeotrope which is then mixed with an aqueous soln. of an alkaline earth chloride e.g. CaCl2 or MgCl2 and redistilled to obtain a top fraction rich in HCl. The latter is then separated e.g. by cooling to give pure HCl gas. The recovered HCl is used to give Cl2 gas by electrolysis.
