Abstract

Process comprises reacting epsilon-aminocarponitrile and water while heating, e.g. at 50-330 degrees C, in contact with catalyst comprising metallic Zn and/or Cu and/or oxides, hydroxides, halides, cyanides and/or organic and/or inorganic acid salts of Rb, Pb, Hg and/or of metals having atomic no. of 21-30 and/or 39-48, e.g. formates, oxalates, acetates, nitrates, sulphates, thiocyanates and carbonates. Organic solvents can be utilised.
