Abstract

2-Thiophene carboxylic acid esters for bronchial and rheumatic conditions Esters of general formula:- where AR=a phenolic compound which can be halogenated, such as 2-ethoxyphenol cresol, thymol, carvacrol, ter-amyl guaiacol (=o-methoxyphenol), chlorothymol, menthol which can also be halogenated. Prepn is by reacting a chloroformic solution of the phenol or menthol in the presence of pyridine at 0 degrees to +5 degrees with a chloroformic solution of 2- thiophene carboxylic acid chloride. The esters are used to treat respiratory complaints such as bronchitis and also certain rheumatic conditions.
