Abstract

Apparatus consists of an elongated magnetisable element provided with a pair of mainly cylindrical, elongated pole pieces with a somewhat smaller diameter than the inner diameter of the bore-pipe, with a cylindrical central core between the hole pieces, this core having a smaller diameter than the pole pieces. A magnetisable coil surrounds the central core between the pole pieces; a detector element with a cylindrically grouped series of magnetic detectors placed between the pole pieces to surround the central core, these detectors being capable of contacting practically the entire periphery of the bore-pipe; spring elements for mounting the detectors, these elements extending outside the central core between the pole pieces; a pair of centring elements, one element extending outwards from the pole pieces in the axial direction, and each centring element being provided with a number of outwardly extending driven elements arranged in axial rows, which can rest against the inner wall of the pipe in order to centre the apparatus against the inner wall of the pipe; and an element for coupling to the apparatus in order to drive the whole apparatus through the bore hole.
