Abstract

Surfaces of hardened zone borders are given a local case-hardening under pressure. Preferably, using induction or flame hardening. Steel is cold-worked under pressure by steel sandblasting or roller smoothing. Steel material is straight or curved axle shaft for railway wagon axle, armature shaft, roller or crankshaft. Advantage: prevents reduction of fatigue resistance by residual surface strain at edges of hardened region.
