Abstract

Electrode for determination of oxygen activity in molten metals. G7-. consists of a tubular metal/ceramic body, closed at one end connected to electrical supply. The body, when dipped in the melt, has a surface layer of electrolytic material permeable to the oxygen ions and containing is not 1 of the substances aluminium-oxide, magnesium-oxide, zirconia or a mixture of thorium-oxide and yttric-oxide. The electricity feed wire can be a branch of a thermo-element, which can be arranged in the tubular metal/ceramic body and can be in electrical conductive connection with the electrode by molybdic powder, sintered during dipping in the melt. Used in a converter where it is embedded in the dire-proof lining wall. It is possible to arrange several electrodes at different depths, so that by wearing of the wall lining at least one electrode protrudes from the lining. Measuring-and contact electrodes are brought in contact with the melt and the potential difference between both is used as measurement for the oxygen ionic activity.
