Abstract
Speed of decarburation of the metallic bath is calculated according to a known method from information given by planned vessel size and blowing conditions. Quantity of oxygen in the dross is then calculate. Probable analysis of the dross is calculated based on physicochemical theories, the FeO activity is deducted therefrom and due to the thermodynamic relation Fe + 0 = (FeO), the oxygen content of the metallic bath in equilibrium with the dross. Relation between the temperature and the invariable equilbrium of one or the other of the two reactions is established:- CO + O = CO2, CO + (FeO) = CO2 + Fe By means of a gas analyser the ratio CO2/CO is calculated, quantities of CO2 and CO being inside the converter, it is thus possible to know the temperature in the converter at all times, it being possible to convert this temperature into a metallic bath temperature by conversion according to a prior gauging.
