Abstract

Piezoelectric ceramics made from solid solution in the ternary system Pb(Mn2/3W,/3)O3 x PbTiO3 y PbZrO3 z in which 25% of the Pb may be replaced by Ba, Sr or Ca. Preferred compsns. lie in the region ABCDE defined by A, x = 0.01, y = 0.59, z = 0.40; B, x = 0.01, y = 0.09, z = 0.90; C, x = 0.05, y = 0.05, z = 0.90; D, x = 0.20, y = 0.20, z = 0.60; E, x = 0.20, y = 0.40, z = 0.40. Starting materials, oxides or carbonates, are ball milled, reacted at 900 degrees C/1 hr., ground then pressed and sintered at 1230-1300 degrees C. Resulting ceramics combine high electrochemical coupling factor with high mechanical quality factor.
