Abstract

The settling tank consists of a large square tank with inclined walls. The tank, made of any suitable material, is divided into different compartments. Two thickening compartments, on the inlet side, act as a grease box and the effluent then passes through a grinding grid, fitted with a motor-driven rake, on its way to the oxidation compartment. Two faces of the tank are connected by a foot-bridge on which a device is mounted for introducing the necessary air into the mass of water undergoing treatment in this chamber. The latter acts both as an activating tank and as a primary settlement tankf a hydrostatic suction device allows the sludge to be evacuated from the thickening compartment for pumping to a drying bed. The resulting water has properties superior to Public Health authority requirements.
