Abstract

High-methane content gas is produced in a high pressure process, in which natural gas is raised to a medium pressure and a volatile gas fraction is added to the natural gas at this pressure, the mixture obtained being adjusted to network distribution pressure, and reheated. Volatile gaseous fraction is composed in part or wholly of methane-rich gases in pressure-equilibrium with the natural gas, or of a methane- and ethane-rich vapour obtained from reduced-pressure vapourisation of liquid natural gas with the extraction of a liquid residue of hydrocarbons heavier than methane, the methane- and ethane- rich fraction being reliquefied in heat exchange with the natural gas during the fractional vapourisation, and them pumped to a higher operating pressure, and re-heated.
