Abstract
(A) alpha-Substituted hydrocinnamic acids of general formula (I), and salts, esters and alkylamino esters thereof. R1=H, hal, C1-4 alkyl, C1-4 alkoxy; R2=H or CH3; R3=hal; n=0 or 1; R4=H, hal, C1-4 alkyl, C1-4 alkoxy, phenyl, phenoxy; Z= -O- or -S- particularly alpha-methyl alpha-(4-chlorophenyl-mercapto) hydrocinnamic acid. (B) Intermediates (II) and (III) (see 'Preparation') (C) Pharmaceutical compositions contng. (I). For reducing serum-cholesterol, triglyceride and blood-sugar levels.
