Abstract

Electromagnetically supporting electrically conducting wire during heating process. Method comprises passing an electric current through the wire to create a transverse magnetic field in the volume which surrounds it. The direction and frequency of this field is varied so that the electro-magnetic force exerted on the wire has a vertical component which is greater than the linear wt. of the wire. In a second volume above the wire a second field is created whose force is less than the linear wt. of the wire. The wire is thus supported by these two fields.
