Description

Method of fixing on its support, an auxiliary member driven by pulleys and belt, such as an automobile engine alternator.
The fixing on their support, of auxiliary members driven by pulleys and belt, such as electric generators of motor vehicle engines is generally provided so as to allow adjustment of the tension of the drive belt. However, not only are these adjustments inconvenient, but, in addition, they do not ensure that the belt tension is optimal.
The present invention aims to remedy this shortcoming by providing a method of fixing, on its support, an auxiliary member driven by pulleys and belt, such as an automobile engine alternator which not only has great ease of adjustment, but in addition, allows to see when the belt is connably tight.
According to this method of fixing, the auxiliary member is provided with at least three legs located in the same plane and comprising parallel slots, each of the slots of these legs being crossed by a screw or a stud fixed to the support, while 'a threaded stud, anchored in the auxiliary member radially to its axis of rotation and parallel to the openings of its fixing lugs and passing through a stirrup integral with the support allows, by screwing a nut on its free end to move said auxiliary member transversely to its axis of rotation, as a result of the reaction of the aforementioned caliper on this nut.
Thus, to adjust the tension of the drive belt of this auxiliary member, it suffices to loosen the bolts of its fixing lugs and to act on the nut carried by the aforementioned stud.
In order to allow control of the tension of the belt, according to another characteristic of the invention, one or more suitably calibrated spring washers are interposed between the adjusting nut and the support bracket.
In the case where this auxiliary member is formed by the alternator of a motor vehicle engine, its rear face faces towards the front of the vehicle. Thus, the air flow generated by the advancement of the vehicle contributes to its cooling.
The support is indifferently constituted directly by the engine block or by the timing cover, or even by the water pump housing, each being correctly fitted.
In the event that the engine is of the air-cooled type, the alternator is placed in place of the water pump.
In any case, the invention will be clearly understood with the aid of the following description, with reference to the appended schematic drawing showing, by way of non-limiting example, one embodiment of this fixing device: FIG. a front view, in partial section; Figure 2 is a plan view from above.
The alternator 2 comprises a flange flange 3 with three legs, one of which 4 is in the extension of a diameter and of which the other two 5 and 5a are on either side of this diameter on the other side of the 'alternator 2.
On the flange flange 3, between the two tabs 5 and 5a and in the same axis as the tab 4, is fixed a threaded stud 6 which extends radially to the axis of rotation of the alternator 2.
The leg 4 has an open lumen 7 and the legs 5 and 5a have two lumens 8 and 8a. A support 9 constituted by the extension of the water pump casing 10 of the engine 12, comprises on the one hand, three bosses 13, 13a and 13b in each of which is fixed a stud 14, 14a or 14b and on the other hand a bracket 15 perpendicular to its plane.
During assembly, the alternator is presented on the support 9 so that its rear face 16 is facing the front of the vehicle, the studs

Claims (2)

RÉSUMÉ14, 14a and 14b pass through the slots 8 and 8a and 7 of the legs 5, 5a and 4, while the threaded stud 6 passes through the caliper 15. The fixing is provided by nuts 17 screwed on the studs 14, 14a and 14b , the threaded stud 6 receiving an elastic washer 18 and a nut 19. The shaft 20 of the alternator is driven in rotation by means of a pulley 22 and a belt 23, the latter passing over a pulley 24 wedged at the end 25 of the shaft of the water pump 10 and on a pulley, not shown, wedged on the end of the crankshaft of the engine 12, The tension of the belt 23 is ensured by the lateral displacement of the 'alternator 2. Indeed, the nuts 17 being partially loosened, it suffices to screw the nut 19 to move the alternator 2, of which the slots 8, 8a and 7 of the tabs 5, 5a and 4 slide on the studs 14, 14a and 14b. The elastic washer 18, suitably calibrated interposed between the nut 19 and its bearing face, on the caliper 15 enables the tension of the belt 23 to be assessed quite precisely, for example when the washer 18 is completely crushed. As goes without saying, and as emerges from the foregoing, the present invention is not limited to the sole embodiment of this device, described above by way of non-limiting example; on the contrary, it embraces all the variant embodiments thereof, regardless in particular of the position of the alternator with respect to the engine.
