Abstract

The diesel engine has an injection system with injectors to inject compressed liquid gas under high pressure into the combustion chambers of the cylinders (35), using liquid injectors. The liquid gas can be created from volatile organic compounds vaporised from the crude oil tank. The engine may be a high compression engine with a compression ratio of at least 1:14. The liquid gas can have a methane number of less than 10. There may also be secondary injectors (16) for the high pressure injection of gaseous mixtures.
