Abstract

The invention concerns a method for controlling ignition in reciprocating engines that use gaseous fuel as well as an ignition system for application of the method. During the suction stroke, the piston in the cylinder draws in at least essentially only air. In the final stages of the compression stroke gaseous fuel is sprayed into the cylinder at high pressure so that part of the fuel encounters a glow plug 1 permanently arranged in combustion space 4 and produces ignition. <IMAGE>
