Abstract

The invention relates in road traffic to a process for transmitting road-related information from a roadside device for use by the driver of the vehicle. The object of the process has been to aid current traffic practice and the use of the process is voluntary both for the road- maintaining authority and for the road user. The transmission method is electrical, a so-called inductive loop, and the transmission frequency is above that of audible sound and below the long radio waves. The road- maintaining authority sends road-related information for the use of road users either by virtue of a cable-like antenna with directional alignment or by virtue of a line coil at the roadside. The road user receives information through a specific receiver, which receives, stores and processes the information according to the driving situation for optimum usability. The receiver is part of the gauge instruments of the vehicle or a retrofitted supplementary device. The display of the receiver shows the most important information for driving. Those data which are peculiar to the vehicle can be programmed into the receiver, the receiver acting as a warning system for transgression of the limits applying to this road. If required, a sound signal is given to alert the driver. The process is directed from the roadside device to the vehicle, other than in emergencies, when the vehicle or road user can send requests for help to passers-by. From the roadside device there are three types of information sent: stationary traffic sign information, variable transmitter information such as weather information and remote-controlled traffic routing information. <IMAGE>
