The present invention relates to a fireplace accessory consisting of a heat exchanger in which the circulating water is heated and the thermal energy of the heated water is available for heating needs.

It is generally found that fireplaces are disadvantageous heating devices because a very large portion of the heat is transferred through the flue. For example, U.S. Patent Nos. 4,232,855 and 4,375,803 disclose some prior art fireplace accessories of this type. Accessories like this are usually built into the fireplace during its manufacture.

The object of the present invention is to provide a suitable accessory for a fireplace, with which a considerable part of the energy is utilized and which is easy to add to an already existing fireplace. The accessory according to the invention is characterized in that the heat exchanger is a separate frame-shaped fire housing opening with lugs from which the heat exchanger can be hung on the hinge pins of the fireplace doors and that the heat exchanger has corresponding hinge parts projecting outwards from the firebox. When the heat exchanger is still equipped with incandescent plates entering the furnace, the heat energy Λ in the furnace along the incandescent plates is transferred to the heat exchanger and further from the heat exchanger to the required destination.

The accessory consists of a heat exchanger 1 in which the circulating water heats up and the thermal energy of the heated water is available for heating needs as indicated by the arrows. The heat exchanger 1 is a separate frame-shaped firebox opening with lugs 2 from which the heat exchanger can be hung on the hinge pins 3 of the fireplace doors. The heat exchanger 1 has corresponding hinge parts 4 on which the fireplace doors can be pivoted. Attached to the heat exchanger are the incandescent plates 5 going inside the firebox of the stove. The hatches are first removed from the frame of the firebox by lifting them up by hinge from pins 3, after which the heat exchanger can be installed in the firebox opening The heat exchanger thus remains firmly in place. The fireplace doors are then placed on the hinge pins 4 in the heat exchanger. The fireplace thus has a separate neat frame which acts as a heat exchanger and to which the necessary hoses or pipes are connected to the necessary objects for transferring heat.
