The present invention relates to a method which makes it possible to dye wood to be translucent with casein colors, whereby the pattern as well as the staining remains clearly visible. Until now, casein dyes have only been able to obtain opaque brushes.

Casein colors are especially offered as overlay colors for graphic drawings and presentations, but they are also used to paint images.

It has now been found that casein dyes are excellent for translucent staining of wood.

When using the method according to the invention, the wood does not need any other pre-treatment, except that it must be sanded. The painting mark looks much smoother than in staining and the staining also happens much faster. The surfaces can be stained without any possible proportions.

Brushed colors, in contrast to statues, are lightfast; several casein dyes can also be mixed together to achieve any desired color tone, including all pastel shades.

In the method according to the invention, the wood is first preferably brushed with a casein color diluted 1: 3 to 1:22 and wiped, and after the first application has dried it is preferably brushed with a casein color diluted 1: 3 to 1:12 water and wiped and optionally brushed or sprayed with colored, dry wood nitro. - or with synthetic resin clearcoat once or twice in a manner known per se.

Before the first staining, the casein dye is diluted 1:12 with water until the dye is evenly distributed. It is then brushed thoroughly and quickly on the wood with a wide brush and then wiped with a cotton cloth. The pattern has already acquired a discolored color with this first brush, which is allowed to dry.

The second application is carried out with the same color, but diluted 1: 6 with water and quickly on the wood and also wiped with a cotton cloth. The patterning is now strongly visible. Within one hour, the paint is completely dry.

In order to achieve the optimum effect of color and pattern and to make the color water-resistant, the painted wood is brushed or sprayed twice with nitro or technical resin clear varnish.

It is recommended to sand the wood lightly after the first brush with fine sandpaper.

Old furniture with a natural pattern on wood in good condition can also be sanded and colored according to the invention. The effect is then surprising, as the furniture looks almost new.
