Abstract

A LED driver (10) comprises a power stage (100) providing an operating current (lout) for driving a LED light source (12) over a wide output voltage range (Vout) that includes at least one low load voltage range and at least one high load voltage range. A voltage sensing circuit (VF) is provided to sense a load voltage (Vf) across the LED light source. A controller (110) is configured to control the operation of the power stage (100) with different load control settings depending on whether the sensed load voltage is within the at least one low load voltage range or within the at least one high load voltage range, when the LED driver (10) is first time connected to the LED light source (12).
