Abstract

The polysaccharide is made by (a) treatment of the Azotobacter vinelandii strain 482 DSM with 2% glucose irradiated in Burk medium at pH 7.4 for 48 hours at ambient temp. (b) treatment of the resultant mutant with 2% mammitol irradiated in Burk medium at pH 7.4 for 160 hours (c) treatment with 1% glutamine and D,L-glutamic acid irradiated in the same medium at pH 7.8 for 268 hours (d) treatment with 2% arabinose and 0.5% D,L-glutamic acid irradiated in the same medium at pH 8 for 216 hours and (e) treatment with 2% arabinose irradiated in Burk medium at pH 8 for 120 hours.
