Abstract

Process comprises (a) admixing air into a hydrocarbon feed stream contg. mercaptans and contactng with an alkaline aq. soln. and a mercaptan oxidation catalyst under oxidation promoting conditions including an elevated pressure above about 120 psig. A liquid phase effluent stream is produced which comprises hydrocarbons, disulphide cpds. and an alkaline aq. soln. with oxygen and nitrogen being dissolved in the hydrocarbons; (b) sepg. the effluent under high pressure, above about 120 psig, to produce a liquid phase first process stream comprising hydrocarbons having disulphide cpds. with dissolved oxygen and nitrogen and an aq. stream comprising the alkaline soln.; (c) withdrawing the aq. stream from the high pressuresepn. zone; (d) sepg. the first process stream at low pressure, below about 5 psig, to form a vapour stream comprising oxygen, nitrogen and vapourous hydrocarbons and a liquid phase second process stream comprising liquid hydrocarbons having dissolved disulphide cpds.; and (e) passing the second process stream into a low pressure storage facility.
