Abstract
A zinc phosphate coating of below 2 g/m<2> is formed on a metal surface by use of an aqueous acidic zinc phosphate coating solution that is free of chlorate and chloride and that is accelerated by a mixture of nitrite and water-soluble organic nitro compound, such as a nitrobenzene sulphonate.
