Abstract

A valve (10) includes a valve seat (46) a reciprocal valve plug (30) to engage the seat and concentric cylindrical cages (50, 52, 54) which surround the valve plug and define axial flow galleries (60, 62). The cage (50) includes apertures (68) and fins (64) that extend radially into the gallery (60) the cage (52) includes apertures (70), an impervious portion (72), and fins (66) that extend radially into the gallery (62) and the cage (54) includes apertures (76) and an impervious portion (74). The cages define a flow path such that pressure drop across the valve on opening is staged to prevent cavitation, and apertures (68,70,76) may be out of radial alignment to make the path tortuous.
