Abstract

For removing heat generated by relative rotation between a stationary connecting housing (16) and a rotary clamping cylinder (1) a cooling air flow passes substantially axially over the connecting housing (16) and is produced by fan blades (7) which rotate with the clamping cylinder and which are disposed on the peripheral surface (8) of the cylinder housing (1). The fan blades (7) are each inclined through at least 45 DEG relative to the cylinder axis (12). Cooling air flow flows in an annular space (17) defined outwardly by a flow guide casing (10) which extends axially over the fan blades (7) and at least a part of the connecting housing (16) and which nowhere reduces the width of the annular space (17) in comparison with the flow cross section in the region of the fan blades (7). Two diametrically opposed blades (7) provide an adequate cooling action even at high speeds of rotation.
