Abstract

Digestive absorption of nutrients in an animal is increased by admin. to the animal of a material (I), esp. an antimotility agent, to increase the dwell time of nutrient matter in the digestive tract. Admin. of (I) is for a sufficiently long period for increased digestion and absorption of the nutrients. - Increased digestive absorption of nutrients in animals causes an increase in the feed efficiency of the animals, esp. in the meat, poultry, dairy and cultivated fishing industries. The feed is efficiently utilised while adverse side effects associated with the usual growth promotants are avoided, and the feed consumption is decreased, with reduced waste generation. The period of growth from infancy to maturity in the animals is shortened. (I) is included in feed to provide 0.005-0.5 mg/kg daily. (Provisional Basic previously advised in Week E42) USAB- US4562209 A Improved feed efficiency for animal population of poultry, comprises administering 0.01-0.1 mg. per kg. of amidinourea of formula (I) or its edible salts, which increases the dwell time of nutrient matter in the digestive tract, w.r.t. healthy animals. Admin. is over a time which increases digestion and absorption of nutrients over and above that which would have been effected had the animal not assimilated (I). - R1, R2, R3 and R4 are H, halo-lower alkyl, lower alkoxy, or lower alkyl; R6 is H or lower alkyl; R' and R'' are H, lower alkyl, lower alkoxy, halo, or halo-lower alkyl; R is H, lower alkyl, halo, lower alkoxy, NO2, NH2, or halo-lower alkyl; and n is 0-3.
