Abstract

The variable gear mechanism esp. for motorcycles is turned by a motor-driven belt and drives the vehicle wheels. It comprises two automatic pulleys (21,22) mounted in series the first pulley (22) receiving an endless belt (26) of trapezoidal cross-section and having a depth which varies according to the centrifugal force of masses contained within the mechanism. The other pulley (21) receives a belt driving the wheel the depth of which varies inversely w.r.t. the depth of the first pulley (22) due to a common pulley wall which is acted on by an axial compensator spring (35).
