Abstract

The invention concerns processes for the production of high purity aluminium fluoride tri-hydrate by the reaction of fluosilicic acid with aluminium hydroxide, filtering off SiO2 and precipitating ACF3 3H2O in the metastable filtrate, wherein the course of the reaction is checked or controlled by means of measurements of specific electrical conductivity. Usefully, no excess fluosilicic acid or aluminium hydroxide need be used in the process. Furthermore, fluctuations in the reaction parameters, viz: the quantities, concentrations, and temperatures, can be kept under control by means of a variable reaction time and can be compensated for. This leads to a constant, optimal yield and to reproducible constant conditions for filtering off the silica. The problems which arise in production as a result of the silica being difficult to filter off, due to not properly maintaining the operational parameters, can therefore be avoided by means of the said process.
