Abstract

A sealing arrangement 10 for a microwave heating cavity 13 comprises first and second strips 14, 15 having upstanding longitudinal webs 18, 19, 20, 21 and 23, 24, 25 respectively, a first resilient elongate sealing element 34 located in a channel 27 between one pair of webs 18, 19 of strip 14 and a second resilient elongate sealing element 35 provided with a conductive cover 38 located in a channel e.g. 28 between another pair of webs 19, 20 of strip 14 so that when the strips are mounted on frames 11, 12, of the housing of the cavity, the webs 23, 24, 25 engage and deform the sealing elements 34, 35 and form a gas tight microwave seal. Two conductive covered sealing elements 35 are separated by a distance L equal to half a wavelength which provides an effective electrical short circuit additional to the contact seal. A resilient closing load e.g. a water filled hose or a ferrite loaded rubber or plastics seal may be provided in an additional channel between adjacent webs of strip 19. Thermal insulation may protect the seal from the environment of the cavity. The sealing elements are retained in the channels by their resilience and may be readily replaced.
