Abstract

In an electrical control circuit for a flat-iron a sensing resistor 7 has a resistance which depends upon the temperature of the heating element 2 and the voltage drop across the resistor 7 is compared with a reference voltage adjustable for different required temperatures, to control the supply of current to the element 2. A current sensor 22 monitors current flow through resistor 7 and blocks the supply of current to the element 2 should the current flow be below a pre-set limit. The circuit may alternatively be arranged to block the supply of current to the element 2 if the sensing resistor current is above a pre-set limit or outside pre-set upper and lower limits. The means for detecting whether the monitored current is outside the specified limit(s) is a differential amplifier comprising two Darlington-connected pairs of transisors.
