Abstract
Method regulating the temp. of an installation comprising packed bed zones, each including a bed of particles and a mixing zone, operating in series, is described. A fluid F enters the mixing zone of the first bed zone, in which the bed has mass M1 and temp. T1, at temp. T2 and at a rate FR1 such that the bed temp. changes from T1 to T2 and the fluid temp. changes from T2 to T1. The fluid F leaves the first stage at temp. T1. The fluid F, and supplementary fluid F, at temp. T1 and T3 respectively, enter the mixing zone of the next bed zone, the supplementary fluid at a rate FR2 such that the fluids mix and form a fluid F at temp. T2 and rate FR3 such that fluid F circulates in the bed, of mass M2 and initial temp. T1, the bed temp. changes from T1 to T2 and the fluid temp. changes from T2 to T1. The fluid F leaves the bed zone used for the third stage. The temps. are regulated by regulating the flow rates and the mass of particles in the beds. The flow rate are given by FR1= T2 CPOS dt+DELTA H /t(CP2.T2-CP1.T1) FR2=A(1+A)j-2FR1 FR3=(1+A)j-1.FR1. Here CPS, CP2, CT1a are heat capacities of the particles, and of the fluids between 0 and T2 and O and T1, respectively, t=desired time for temp. to change from T1 and T2, DELTA H= heat of reaction. The masses are given by M1=M/epsilon N(1+A)j-1 where M=total mass of particles and A=(CP1T1-CP2T2)/(CPT2j=1-CP3T3) M2=(1+A)j-1M1. The beds are used in sorption, desorption, reacting and regeneration operations. The system improves temp. regulation in a simple and efficient way, giving redn. in capital and operating costs, low rates, rapid cycleS, low pressure, drop, low total bed mass, improved mixing, reduced concn. difference.
