Abstract

A procedure for preparing a fermentation broth containing the Xanthomonas colloid, suitable for the preparation of mobility control solutions used in oil recovery, characterized in that 1) an aqueous nutrient medium comprising a carbohydrate, a source of nitrogen, approximately 0.1 to 10 grams per liter of assimilable Krebs acid, approximately 1 to 200 pates per million of chelated calcium, approximately 0.25 to 20 parts per million of iron and trace elements; and 2) a Xanthomonas organism is introduced into it and the mixture is aerated, preferably at a temperature of around 30ºC, to result in the aerobic fermentation of Xanthomonas to produce a broth containing approximately 100 to 3,000 parts per million of the Xanthomonas colloid and which is substantially free of insoluble matter with a particle size greater than about 3 microns.
