Abstract

A heating set using an internal combustion engine (15) as a source of power, includes a heat pump and also supplies a series of heat exchangers for radiators etc. and uses heat from the engine and the heat pump to return recovered heat to the system. The engine exhaust pipe (14) discharges into a water tank (13) which houses a heat exchanger connected to the heating circuit (3). The engine, the transmission unit (1) and the compressor are housed under an insulating jacket consisting of foamed polyurethane, except for those parts sensitive to heat. The heat pump condenser also forms a heater for part of the space heating system. The supply of the working agent for the heat pump is controlled according to the ambient temperature of the heat pump evaporator, and combined with the operation of the engine. The engine and the compressor give at least a capacity double that required for the normal heating system.
