Abstract
It is an object of the present invention to provide an apparatus for heat exchange that is air cooled and that can be manufactured at a relatively low cost. A further object of the invention is to provide an apparatus for heat exchange of the type mentioned, which minimizes the need for excessive energy for fans, and the use of heat pipes that require internal absorbent material. Another object of the present invention is to provide an apparatus for heat exchange, of the type mentioned, which employs a plurality of thermal siphon tubes, controlled by gravity and arranged in a unique manner. For compliance with these and other objects, the heat exchange apparatus of the present invention comprises a heat exchange upper section, a lower heat exchange section, a plurality of thermal siphon tubes each of which has an upper portion extending in the upper heat exchange section and a lower portion extending in the lower heat exchange section, each of the tubes being closed at each end and containing a fluid for heat exchange, devices for passing a hot fluid through the lower portions of the tubes to transfer heat from the hot fluid to the heat exchange fluid, and devices to pass a cold fluid through the upper portions of the tubes, to remove the heat from the the heat exchange fluid.
