Abstract

In a new process for the prodn. of solutions of filtered lysates of microorganism cultures occurring in the formation of caries-inducing dental plaque, the bacteria concerned are cultivated in a selective medium at 20-50 degrees C using a buffer to adjust the pH, until a specified degree of ripeness is reached, then the cultures are lysed by means of a soln. of NaF. The bacteria used are pref. gram-positive cocci, gram-negative bacteria, and gram-positive bacteria, e.g. Streptococcus gr D S 19, E. coli S 7 and Lactobacillus acidophilus S 210. The lysate solns. have antigenic properties and can be used in the treatment and prevention of dental and parodontal disorders attributable to caries.
