Abstract
A method for the preparation of an electrocatalyst, which comprises treating a refractory inorganic oxide with a pyrolyzable organic compound under pyrolysis conditions, to form at least one monolayer of a carbonaceous piropolymer on the surface of said refractory inorganic oxide, then impregnating the resulting composition with a solution containing at least one catalytically active metal, heat the composite material to a temperature sufficient to remove the solvent, reduce said composite material in a reducing atmosphere under reducing conditions, and recover the resulting electrocatalyst.
